Thumb Drives

Hi everyone!

I’m working my way through the thumb drive orders, slowly but surely. I think you’ll be really pleased with both the photos and the video! The video file is really big, and to be able to copy it to the flash drives, I’ve had to reformat the drives. The format is meant for PCs. So if you only have access to a Mac, you’ll need to add a program to open them. There are several available online for this purpose. If you only have access to a Mac, and would like your thumb drive formatted for it (meaning you wouldn’t be able to open it on a PC without some tinkering), please let me know at mxsmith@cloud.edu.pe.ca, and I’ll format your flash drive accordingly.

In the meantime, please enjoy this preview of what you’ll find on your drive 🙂

Thanks!
Megan

Final Preparations !

Final Preparations for our Show

Well, tomorrow’s the big day! After months of preparation we are finally heading to the Florence Simmons Performance Hall to present the Beauty and the Beast Jr. on the big stage. Here are a couple of things to know to help your child to be prepared for our very busy day:

  • Students should arrive to school Wednesday on time. Buses leave between 8:40 and 8:50 tomorrow morning. Please don’t be late! Our soundcheck begins at 9:30 and we have many preparations to make upon our arrival.
  • Students should arrive to school wearing their costume base, i.e. the clothing that their costume is worn over.  Additional costume parts that are worn over these clothes (Aprons, hats, etc… ) can be added in the green room once we arrive. There are not change rooms at the performance hall, just washrooms which are not sufficient to provide changing space to a cast of 90.
  • Students must arrive to school with all of their costume parts! There will not be time to call home for missing parts or pieces. These costumes should be kept in the labeled ziploc bags that were passed out to students at our weekend rehearsals (except for those characters whose costumes are too large to fit entirely in their bag). Students should also consider the footwear that they plan on wearing for the show. Black shoes and/or dance shoes are preferable. If these are not possible, students can go barefoot on stage, or choose shoes that will not be distracting with their other costume parts.
  • Makeup will be applied to select students (main characters only) tomorrow morning at the performance hall. If a student wishes to apply makeup at home they should arrive at school with it on.
  • Students need to bring their lunch with them to the performance hall as we will be there from 9AM until the students are picked up at 3:30 following the matinee show. Please refer to our previous post for more details on arrivals and pickups. A waterbottle is also highly recommended!
  • Please go over expectations with your child for behavior in a theater setting. We need all students to show respect to our helpers, to each others, and to the performance hall staff while we are there. This also means respecting the space that we are using, not yelling, picking up after ourselves, and not running. This is a professional performance hall and learning space for other people and we must be conscious of this while we are there.

Looking forward to sharing this production with you over the next couple of days 🙂

Parent Volunteers

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much to our volunteers who have agreed to help supervise backstage during the shows. If you could arrive a half hour ahead of the show’s scheduled time, that would be terrific! Here is some information to keep in mind to help things to run as smoothly as possible:

  • There is a washroom outside the far door (from the door to the stage staircase) that the kids can use. Once the show begins, they should be conscious of timing, keeping in mind when they are next due to be on stage so that they don’t miss their cue.

  • A runner will communicate between me in the wings, and the green room, to let you know when actors from a particular scene need to line up to head to the stage. They need to be extremely quiet when leaving the green room– noise from the wings is very distracting and easily heard.

  • Please don’t let the kids touch the face paint! It is expensive and can make a mess.

  • Students should stay as quiet as is possible with 90 kids in a room. Things can quickly get wild and silly, so best that everyone stays calm and settled.

  • Absolutely no running, no playing with any props, no leaving the room without checking with a supervisor. There are three doors to the room to keep an eye on.

  • Students will need to get signed out by a parent before they can leave the theatre. They can not wait outside or in the lobby to meet their ride. Parents will have to come down to the green room to get them. We’ll provide you with a list of the kids and we’ll go over these expectations with them as well prior to the performances.

  • We would be tremendously grateful for any help in providing activities to keep kids occupied backstage. This could be coloring sheets, crossword puzzles, and word searches, origami,  boardgames (without too many pieces to get lost), a movie or video on a laptop, books, or anything else you might think of that would keep kids quiet and settled while waiting.

  • Please remind the kids to clean up after themselves- throwing out wrappers, storing their lunches and snacks in their bags, keeping their belongings tidy and out of the way. This makes finishing up at the theatre much faster after a busy and tiring day of performing.
